This is a flight review (Tripreport) of our Thomson Airways Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flight to Puerto Plata (Gregorio Luperón International Airport) in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. We flew in economy class called "Dreamliner Class" on the Dreamliner. All footage of the journey is filmed from the economy class cabin. Our flight crew was mainly British with a Scandinavian stewardess on board too. Our Thomson Airways Dreamliner (Boeing 787-8) had registration number G-TUIA and was named "Living the Dream". Our flight started at Copenhagen Airport in Denmark and the aircraft passengers where mainly Scandinavians (Swedish and Danish nationality). Our charter holiday trips where booked via Star Tour (name for TUI in Denmark) (Fritidsresor as TUI are called in Swedish) which is the same as TUI travel in the UK and Germany. I believe TUI is called ARKE in the Netherlands, is that correct? Our Dreamliner flight review begins at Copenhagen Airport in Denmark. The viewer can follow our arrival at the airport (Terminal 3) before we walk down to Terminal 2 where out Thomson Airways check-in desk is located. We then check-in at the self check-in counters and the drop our luggage at the Thomson Airways Baggage Drop Off area. We then make our way up to the departures area via the tax free shopping area. Once through the tax free shopping area we walk over to the windows where there is a little snow storm outside, the first aircraft we see is the Qatar Airlines Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner being towed away. We walk around the airport for awhile before we again pass another passport control (2 x passport control because we are leaving the European Union). We then arrive at our departure gate area (our gate was C29) where we get our first glimpse of our Thomson Airways Dreamliner passenger aircraft which is rather covered in snow. It is here at the gate that we are told that the flight is delayed as there is a problem with the aircraft's water supply system which means that there is no water for the lavatories or tea and coffee. We eventually board the plane just over 1 hour delayed. As we pushback and start taxiing we get some nice views of the Thai Airways and Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 aircraft also standing at the C area gates, We also get some nice views of the terminal building construction project (I believe that the terminal is being upgraded to be able to handle the giant Airbus A380 aircraft, which currently do not fly to Copenhagen Airport. The aircraft then makes it´s way for de-icing where the viewer gets a cabin view at the deicing process of a Dreamliner Boeing 787 aircraft. After de-icing we taxi over to our runway for take off (Runway 04R), from this point our journey begins. Watch out for economy class cabin views where you can see the 3-3-3 seat arrangements, view the in flight entertainment system (IES) a touchscreen used mainly for movies, TV shows and the route and speed of the aircraft (also the reading light and stewardess calling button are found on the touch screen). We also visit the galley and lavatory. Inflight meals which we have prepaid also feature in the footage. We had one main meal and then one complimentary snack box just before landing. Also watch out for the famous Dreamliner mood lights, the fancy new self dimming windows the huge General Electric e ith their characteristic noise reducing chevrons (or saw teeth) and much more. We really hope that you enjoy the footage of our first flight on the Thomson Airways Dreamliner to Puerto Plata (Gregorio Luperón International Airport) in the Dominican Republic. Wiki writes about Thomson Airways, "Thomson Airways Limited is the world's largest charter airline, offering scheduled and charter flights from the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland to destinations in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America. The airline was formed following the merger of the travel division of TUI AG and First Choice Holidays plc in September 2007 to form TUI Travel. The two companies' respective airlines, Thomsonfly and First Choice Airways, were merged under the former's Air Operator's Certificate in May 2008, and were re branded as Thomson Airways on 1 November 2008. TUI Travel merged with TUI AG to form..." Wiki writes about TUI Travel, "TUI Travel PLC was a British leisure travel group listed on the London Stock Exchange. It was formed on 3 September 2007 with the merger of First Choice Holidays PLC and the Tourism Division of TUI AG, which owns 56.4% of the company. TUI operated in 180 countries..." Eng/Ger/Nat The bodies of the victims of this week's plane crash in the Dominican Republic have been transported to the island nation's capital, Santo Domingo. A team of German forensic experts has arrived there to help with autopsies, while families continue to wait for information on their loved ones. Refrigerated seafood trucks filled with the victims' remains were parked outside the facility where autopsies were to be performed. None of the 189 people aboard Flight 301, mainly German tourists returning home, survived the crash. Investigators are searching for the flight recorders from the Boeing 7-57 that went down in the Atlantic near the Dominican Republic early last week. Rescue workers gave up the search for survivors Thursday night after recovering 72 bodies. The bodies were trucked from Puerto Plata to a morgue in the capital, Santo Domingo, for identification by Dominican and German forensic scientists. Those dead included 44 women, 25 men, and three of the four children on board. The family of a Dominican Republic flight attendant waited in Santo Domingo for information on their loved-one's remains. SOUNDBITE: (In Spanish) "She was a very studious girl - calm." SUPER CAPTION: Relative of plane crash victim A team of German forensic experts arrived at the scene to assist with the autopsies, they were greeted by the German ambassador to the Dominican Republic, SOUNDBITE: (In German) "We have all the bodies here. Until now, no autopsies have been performed on any body found at the site of the accident." SUPER CAPTION: Edmund Duckwitz, German Ambassador, Dominican Republic) Investigators are hoping the flight-data recorders will explain what caused Tuesday night's crash. The U.S. Navy was sending equipment to help locate the "black boxes," which emit water-activated radio signals. Dominican air traffic controllers said the jet apparently nose-dived from 7,000 feet into the sea 15 miles off this coastal resort, disappearing off the radar screen six minutes after take-off. The accident was a blow to Dominican authorities who hoped to soon win back U.S. permission allowing their airlines to fly to the United States. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration barred them in 1993 because the country's aviation agency failed to meet international safety standards. This is inside airport footage of Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) also called Puetro Plata Airport, located on the Caribbean island, The Dominican Republic. This inside the airport passenger departure area is filmed from the passenger drop off point to the departure gate and finally ends with us boarding our Thomson Airways Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flight back to Copenhagen, Denmark. We hope that this video will be useful for all travelers flying in or out of Puetro Plata Airport on their charter holidays from the USA, Canada or Europe. I can understand that this airport Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) is mainly used by large long haul European Aircraft bringing European charter tourists on holiday to the Caribbean. The video starts at the drop off point at the airport. This is the area where tourists arrive with there buses at the international departure area for their flights. They are first met by a number of porters who want to help with their luggage (they actually insist) wearing white T-shirts. I am not sure whether they are employed by Puetro Plata Airport or not. We then proceed to the very busy Check-in counters to check-in for our Thomson Dreamliner flight back to Copenhagen. The Check-in ground staff are very effective and the check-in process is quick. We then make our way to the other end of the arrivals terminal where we have to fill in some papers for the customs authorities (basic information about you and where you have stayed and for how long). There are a few locals hanging around here who try to help you (without being asked) and then expect a tip for it (I do not believe that they are employed by the airport). Once we have filled in the customs forms we make our way into the departure area (it is here we hand over the customs papers). We then pass through security control (be aware that at Puetro Plata Airport security control all passengers in addition to belts ets. must also remove their shoes. Once we have passed security control we then make our way up into the main departure terminal where Departure Gates 2-10 are located. All gates are on the same floor. The departure terminal offers passengers the same standard services (on a smaller scale) as other international airports. Services include clean restrooms, money exchange services, Duty Free shopping (tax free shopping) restaurants, kiosks, fast food restaurants and vending machines. Information about gates and flight departures are easily available on the screens located all around the terminal. We walk all the way around the terminal and give you a view of the gates, duty free shops, VIP lounge, restaurants, fast food restaurants, kiosks and vending machines before returning to our gate where you get a view of our Thomson Airways Dreamliner (Boeing 787-8) arriving at Gate 5 ready to fly us home. The video ends with us boarding the fantastic Thomson Dreamliner Aircraft. Wiki writes about Puerto Plata Airport - Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP), "Gregorio Luperón International Airport (Spanish: Aeropuerto Internacional Gregorio Luperón) (IATA: POP, ICAO: MDPP), also known as Puerto Plata Airport, is located in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. It is the Dominican Republic's fourth busiest airport by passenger traffic and aircraft movements, after Punta Cana, Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros airports. The airport is named after General Gregorio Luperón, a Dominican military and state leader... Capable of handling planes of all sizes, Puerto Plata Airport has benefited from being in an area with many beaches, which are popular among charter airline passengers. The popularity of the city where it is located has also drawn a number of regularly scheduled passenger airlines over the years..." Wiki writes about Puetro Plata City, "San Felipe de Puerto Plata, Puerto de Plata, often referred to as simply Puerto Plata, is the capital of the Dominican Republic province Puerto Plata... The city is famous for resorts such as Playa Dorada and Costa Dorada, located east of San Felipe de Puerto Plata. There are a total of 100,000 hotel beds in the city...The only aerial tramway in the Caribbean is located in Puerto Plata. With it, one can ride up to Pico Isabel de Torres, a 793 meter high mountain within the city. The top of the mountain features a botanical garden and a replica of Christ the Redeemer, the famous statue in Rio de Janeiro..." English/Nat The search for survivors of Tuesday's plane crash off the coast of the Dominican Republic had to be suspended after night fall. The bodies found were taken to a makeshift morgue in black body bags. The plane, carrying 189 people, mostly German tourists, had crashed shortly after takeoff from Puerto Plata International Airport. Coastguards had the gruesome task of pulling the dead from the shark-infested waters. At least 105 bodies have so far been discovered, and there is little hope for any survivors. The cause of the accident is not yet known. As night fell on the Caribbean island of the Dominican Republic, rescue workers had to interrupt their search for survivors. More than 100 bodies found were taken to a makeshift morgue at Puerto Plata, protected by heavily armed Dominican guards. Working among sharks and floating debris, rescuers searched all day in a desperate attempt to locate survivors of the plane crash. But all they could find were the bodies of the dead they pulled from the deep blue waters of the Atlantic, after the chartered jet loaded with German tourists crashed just off the coast with 189 people aboard. The cause of the crash was still a mystery. The Boeing 757 was carrying the tourists home from the Caribbean on Tuesday night when it crashed about 12 miles (20 kilometres) off the coast into shark-infested waters. An air and sea search by the U.S. Coast Guard and Dominican military on Wednesday turned up only empty life rafts and debris from the aircraft. At least 105 bodies have so far been recovered, and there is little hope for survivors. SOUNDBITE: "At that time we saw about a mile and a half to two miles of debris, probably about 150 yards wide, just scattered bits of the aircraft. Question: What's the possibility that there could be survivors down there? You always hold out and hope that there's a survivor. We'll keep looking until the search is called off." SUPER CAPTION: Commander Barry Harner, U-S Coast Guard Flight 301, operated by a Dominican airline, Alas de Transporte Internacional, took off from the Puerto Plata International Airport about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday (0345 GMT Wednesday) in a light rain. Bound for Frankfurt and Berlin, the plane was owned by a Turkish company, Birgenair, and leased to the Dominican airline. The Hamburg-based Oeger Tours said the airline switched from a planned Boeing 767 to a Boeing 757 shortly before takeoff because the 767's hydraulic system was not functioning properly. A spokeswoman for Schoenefeld airport in Berlin, however, claimed that the planes had been switched because the flight was underbooked for the larger 767. The plane carried 176 passengers, including four children, and 13 crew members. Most of the passengers were German tourists, while 11 crew members were Turkish and two were Dominican. Aircraft from the U.S. Coast Guard and Navy and the Dominican military flew low over the crash site Wednesday, directing rescue workers in inflatable boats to bodies. Volunteers from Puerto Plata and nearby towns joined the search for survivors as rain squalls in the morning gave way to calm seas. Radar operators noted five minutes after takeoff that the plane had turned around and was headed back to land, said a spokesman for Dominican Republic's civil air agency. There had been no radio contact with the plane to indicate there was a problem, the last message from the plane being "Stand by". The type of aircraft involved in the crash, a Boeing 757, had had a spotless technical record until two months ago, when an American Airlines flight crashed shortly before landing in Colombia. In 1977 the Dominican Republic interned a Cuban ship that sailed into Dominican terrirtorial waters and approached the shoreline illegally. The Cuban response was to fly 12 MiG-21 fighters over Santo Domingo at supersonic speeds and threaten to bomb three major Dominican cities if the boat was not released. This is a quick documentary about the mission.

T/I: 10:06:35 Dominican officials said on Thursday (7/11) that pilot error was the probable cause of the crash of a Boeing 757 jetliner into the Atlantic Ocean six minutes after takeoff on February 6th. The crash killed 189 people - most of them German tourists. A small Dominican carrier, Alas Nacionales, had leased the plane from a Turkish company, Birgenair. Other events contributed to the crash, including the lack following the basic procedures of flight preparation. Also, the lack of knowledge of the plane by the crew. As for the maintenance of the plane, during the investigation, we found that all the maintenance done to this plane were within the guidelines established by Boeing (maker of the plane) WS of audience Runs 1.40 You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/youtube/bcaf931cfd343d12c987ecf0a937b536 Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork
